The reason I have chosen this group is mainly because I feel that they are unique and different in the sense that they are very urban and they have taken a different approach to boy bands which ultimately is what they are. I also like the way they all work together harmoniously. I also think they are very niche but have the potential to become mainstream artists.
I think that the ideal age group for this song would be 15- 26 and the gender would be both Male and Female. I think that my target audience would be interested in a lot of sports such as football, basketball and they would be an early adopter and possibly enjoy watching movies. I also think that they would be very involved in music and would possibly play an instrument and may even produce there own music. I think that they would live in the city an example would be London or New York this is because they would be able to stay connected with the music industry. I also think that they might live in a very average and normal home and may use songs like these to escape from there lives which may be hard and slightly difficult and may have lost a person in their lives. I think that they would be quite educated and they would possibly be a secondary school and some may be doing their A- Levels.
The lyrics relate to a lot of issues and stuggles in life this is connoted by this lyric: "Some just working cause they got bills to pay". What I like with this group is that they do not glamorise life and sugar coat everything, I find them to be down to earth and honest about life. The lyrics are very positive this is supported by: "Good Luck y'all" but the backing track and the way the song has been mixed give it a very sad, dark and unfulfilled tone. An example of this is: "God bless you even if we dont keep in touch, I'm glas I met you. I think that this song has a lot of pathos and causes great sadness and pity as the singer could be talking about anything. It gives the impression that something tragic will happen to him.
The instruments used in the song are majority acoustic and there is a use of beat boxing which adds a more rough element to it. There is a use of reverb which give the song a very spacey, distant sound this is evident especially on the lead vocalist. The backing vocal adds an upbeat and hopeful tone to the song. I find this contrast to be very effective and unique. I also imported the file onto logic and I used the BPM counter and the song is approximately 82.9 which is very slow and this would make it easier to cut to different parts of the music video and it creates a depressing tone.
If I were to use this in a video I wouldn't have the band in the video together they would each have a certain shot that would develop and maybe at the end of the video have the band together. I am thinking about having a lot of shots that show poverty and the struggle in life. I believe that it would be appropriate that this song has a story as it will engage the audience and they would get lost in the verisimilitude of the video. I am thinking about possibly using children who are successful in life and graduating from school this would be supported by this lyric: "Some graduate, then they go away". I would then show children who are very unlucky and may be involved in drugs and alcohol and live in dysfunctional families and towards the end of the video there could be a role reversal. The gender of these characters would have to be male.
